the stats

okay friends,
i just went to the OB today (the pregnancy dr.) and here are the nuts and bolts stats on the upcoming reesling:

i'm 3 cm dilated and 75% effaced--for any of you who may not be obstetrically inclined i've included a little pregnancy glossary at the end. i'm very excited! any work that my body does BEFORE going in to labor means less work later, oh yeah!

so that's the word. oh and i have very weirdly only gained 4 pounds during this pregnancy. i think it might be a combination of being A LOT more active and having gestational diabetes which keeps me from having limitless cookies and cream ice cream and chili cheese dogs--maybe i should just combine the 2 for a special, compact treat: chili cheese 'n' cream ice cream.

dilation Opening of the cervix during labor to allow the baby to pass through; 10 centimeters is considered fully dilated

effacement Gradual thinning and shortening of the cervix during labor--100% is considered fully effaced

a longing fulfilled...

so proverbs says that hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life. well, guess what happened on friday, the exact day after my pork 'n' beans snack. that's right, i got to have a chili dog at sonic. it was so luciously good (yes, pei, that LLLLLucious with the tip of the tongue lingering long on the alveolar ridge), but i think the proverb should now be re-written in the revised pregnancy edition of proverbs to read:

hope (or "chili dogs") deferred make the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled makes the heartburn.

it's all worth it!

pork and beans

so i am sitting here at the computer giving in to intense pregnancy cravings....sort of. i'm eating pork and beans, you know the canned baked beans with the little chunks of pork fat floating in the juice. what i really, really wanted was a chili cheese dog, alas i don't have the ingredients and it's too late to be running out to sonic or heb, so i had to settle for the beans. they're not bad, but i wonder how many years they've been sitting in our pantry. i think they were part of an heb meal deal in another decade, perhaps....

i'll try to get back into the swing of "news from austin" updates. i've obviously been a bit remiss over the last 3 months. i'll work on that.
