here are the laffertys a few minutes before they left. naomi was being very affectionate toward them and kept talking about will and jenni aaaallll weekend! i think she sensed they were leaving and she had to get a lot of snuggling in :-) please note the orange wall in the background. it's our kitchen. pei, we have one of your house design magazines to thank.

do y'all remember (for those of us who lived in river oaks) being subjected to multiple viewings of that hope video that john had? well, i thought it would be nice to give you an update on the cousins. this picture was taken at the audubon zoo in new orleans over christmas and left to right are naomi, anna (5), sophie (2), hope (7), and drew (3)...sophie's really the most docile one in the bunch even though here she looks piratesque. "arggh, sophie".

news from austin

hi friends here and abroad. so jenni and will have left austin tonight. about 20 minutes ago they pulled away from our house, leaving their beloved 4-runner ("yogamo"--yoga machine, for those not on a first-name basis with the lafferty's car) in our care. so it's wierd that it's our car now, it seems like it'll be theirs for a long time. anyway, there was a send-off at church this morning and a going away party this afternoon and now they're gone. *sigh*

but one thing jenni and i talked about was having a blog to report some austin stuff to those of y'all around the world (liz, pei, kristina, will, jenni, others??) who like to keep in touch with austin :-) to tell you things that may be mundane, but maybe not too mundane... to mention things that get left out of long, deep, emails... to show pictures of our friends... to share old and new stories...and to provide a little, feebly-written taste of life geographically far away.

i've personally had mixed feelings about blogs in the past. sometimes it seems voyeuristic, falsely intimate, invasively personal, but i figured i'd like to do it for you, my particular friends....because i like you a lot!
